The Immaculate Conception of Mary is, according to Catholic doctrine, the conception of the Virgin Mary without any stain of Original Sin. It is one of the four dogmas in Roman Catholic Mariology. Under this aspect Mary is sometimes called the Immaculata (the Immaculate One) The Immaculate Conception was solemnly defined as a dogma by Pope Pius IX in his constitution Ineffabilis Deus on the 8th December 1854. Because of this event, in Italy it is a national vacation, so I'm going to take a short break from blogging to celebrate this event, but i will be back as usual on Thursday :)
